a little lagniappe for your home. when our friends at the artisan shop connected us to the bhujodi weavers making beautiful shawls with embroidery and mirror work, we jumped at the opportunity to design a few ready-to-wear pieces using the traditional textiles. after cutting our tunic dresses and dusters with beautiful bhujodi, we had plenty of scraps that we didn't want to go to waste. our partners, the saheli women, meticulously crafted these cushion covers from spliced bhujodi, as a little something extra for us. the cutest unique accessory for the home, using all leftover cuttings.

all artisans have determined their own wages for both the raw materials and the stitching of these items.

the saheli women community center is a women-run enterprise employing 40+ female artisans in the village of bhikamkor, rajasthan. collaborating with a few small fashion brands provides these women with not only a happy work environment and fair wages, but skill development, health education, and insurance. under the umbrella of iphd india, the saheli enterprise also funds sponsorship for young girls to attend school, holds workshops on female hygiene and health, and runs the only female health clinic in the village. the saheli women have transformed the village of bhikamkor, and, with training and guidance, hope to eventually replicate this project in other villages across india. the word “saheli” in hindi means “female friend,” and these women create goods that are meant to be treasured, symbolic of the power of friendship, respect, gender equality, and fair wages.
