our tablecloths are made by an ikat artisan family in telangana, india, and stitched by our parters, the saheli women. each member of this ikat artisan cluster specializes in a particular skill passed down from their predecessors — every technique, design, and weave is unique to the artisans and a reflection of how they learned the craft. these particular ikat patterns were created in collaboration with the artisan family in telangana, lekha, and the saheli women. 

all artisans have determined their own wages for both the raw materials and the stitching of these items.

the saheli women community center is a women-run enterprise employing 40+ female artisans in the village of bhikamkor, rajasthan. collaborating with a few small fashion brands provides these women with not only a happy work environment and fair wages, but skill development, health education, and insurance. under the umbrella of iphd india, the saheli enterprise also funds sponsorship for young girls to attend school, holds workshops on female hygiene and health, and runs the only female health clinic in the village. the saheli women have transformed the village of bhikamkor, and, with training and guidance, hope to eventually replicate this project in other villages across india. the word “saheli” in hindi means “female friend,” and these women create goods that are meant to be treasured, symbolic of the power of friendship, respect, gender equality, and fair wages.
