saheli mango madhu robe
created in partnership with the saheli women, our partners in rural rajasthan, the madhu robe is made from the softest up-cycled cotton fabric, this time in subtle mango stripes with a white sari border. on a trip to visit the saheli women, we were excited to learn about their new embroidery and crochet skills, and wanted to implement them in a few easy styles. at belt’s border, light beige crochet borders the up-cycled cotton, and embroidered florals are found on the upper back — subtle details that transform the simple design. featuring a semi-sheer cotton, cascading sleeves, a flowing body, and belt closure, we love this robe around the house, poolside, or as an outer layer over jeans and a tank.

the saheli women community center is a women-run enterprise employing 40+ female artisans in the village of bhikamkor, rajasthan. collaborating with a few small fashion brands provides these women with not only a happy work environment and fair wages, but skill development, health education, and insurance. under the umbrella of iphd india, the saheli enterprise also funds sponsorship for young girls to attend school, holds workshops on female hygiene and health, and runs the only female health clinic in the village. the saheli women have transformed the village of bhikamkor, and, with training and guidance, hope to eventually replicate this project in other villages across india. the word “saheli” in hindi means “female friend,” and these women create goods that are meant to be treasured, symbolic of the power of friendship, respect, gender equality, and fair wages.
