Surfer, esthetician, model, and mother, Brittney Valverde balances practicality and a vibrant personal style in her dressing. Brittney took a few of our favorite staple dresses for a spin in her beautiful home on Kauai, Hawaii. Read on to learn more about her dressing philosophy, inspiration, and priorities.

You call one of the most beautiful places on Earth home. How has living on Kauai, Hawaii impacted your personal style and way of dressing?

I am from Honolulu which is a metropolitan city with island vibes. I have made it a priority to maintain my sense of style because it truly makes me happy. If anything, I dress to adjust to the weather because it rains a lot here, but for the most part my are for weird shoes and accessories, pops of color, and edge have stayed with me.

You’re an esthetician, surf instructor, model, and mother - how do you balance such different callings and what advice would you offer to those in similar positions?

I have the personality that needs to wear many different hats to maintain my sense of excitement and freshness for my passions. I say yes to the people and things that spark joy. I also advocate for myself and ask for help from my support team when and where I need it. I invite everyone, especially mamas to do the same and let go of guilt for choosing yourself and what feels right for you. Because at the end of the day if you’re happy and well cared for - so are the people you love.

What are your beach must-haves? Do you have a uniform or typical beach look?

I always have a board in the back of my truck when I know there’s waves. My beach go to’s are a triangle string bikini, pareo (sarong), dad cap and sunnies.

Where and when do you feel most inspired?

I feel most inspired when I’m sarong, meditating, or in a city. I love to be in flow state, stillness and feeling the buzz from a city.

What does your dream day on Kauai look like, from dusk to dawn?

A slow morning in bed watching the rain hit the river and the morning light creep in. Have a cup of coffee and sit at my meditation table for my morning meditation while burning my favorite incense. All before Jaya wakes up. Go for a surf check, have some breakfast at our favorite cafe. Paddle out for a midday surf together. Head to our local health food store for lunch. Meet friends at the beach for sunset and wine while the kids play. Cook a yummy dinner, watch a movie and sleep deep.
